Classes and a Surprise Field Trip

I am taking four classes this semester, all of them with Calvin students. 308 and 309 are combinations of Spanish literature and history; 308 is early lit. and hist. and 309 is later. Because the classes have information that is chronological, 308 meets for 8 hours a week during the first half of the semester and 309 will meet for 8 hours per week during the second half of the semester. So right now, I have 308...but it feels like two classes because one professor, Alfonso, teaches the literature portion, and another professor, "Ge," teaches the history portion. I also have Ge for 302, which is grammar, writing and conversation. 316 is the class that all of the Calvin students are in, and it is taught by Professor Bierling, who is a Calvin prof. The class is about contemporary Spain, but usually half of the class is announcements and sharing stories etc. In general, this semester is a lot of reading, and of course, it's all in Spanish! It has been very challenging, but I have had two exams so far, and weren't too bad. Last week, Maria Elena (Prof. Bierling) told us that we were going to go on a field trip to a surprise location. I had no idea what to expect, but was slightly surprised when we ended up at a cemetery. Maria Elena had discovered the cemetery a few days earlier and had talked to a man who worked there. However, she did not tell him that she would be returning in a few days with a group of 25 students, so he was a bit surprised when we showed up. I had trouble understanding all of his explanations, but some people were shot at the cemetery during the civil war. All in all, it was a relatively interesting field trip and related, somewhat, to the history we have been learning in class. I told Eva about it that night at dinner and it turned into one of the most entertaining conversations I have had here. Eva thought that it was very strange, and also hilarious, that we had gone to the cemetery. She told me that if I got scared during the night I could sleep with her, and that it was a good thing no one was getting buried! I wish I had a recording of the conversation...but we were both laughing for a long time.
