On Saturday I went to Valencia with a lot of other Calvin students. One of the Calvin students, Miguel (Michael), had discovered tickets to "Peter and the Wolf" (Pedro y el lobo) for only 5 euros. So we took the bus to Valencia and arrived with plenty of time to walk to the Palau de les Arts. This concert hall is in the "City of Arts and Sciences," which is a relatively new section of Valencia with a lot of modern architecture. The Oceanografic, where we went on our first trip to Valencia, is right next door. Im not really sure what to call Peter and the Wolf. An orchestra played Sergei Prokofiev's music while a film adaptation of the story. It was only about 45 minutes long, but I enjoyed it--probably as much as all of the little kid's that were there. After the concert, we went to the Fallas Museum. Fallas is a big festival that happens in Valencia in March. People build these big, statue-type things and then they burn them during the festival. The city of Valencia sponsors one falla and it (or a part of it) is put in this museum. It difficult to describe these "sculptures," but they are often satirical or look like something from a fairy tale. I wasn't allowed to take pictures in the Museum, (and I had forgotten my camera), but here is a picture of a falla from the web to give you an idea of what they are. I also added a picture from the web of the music hall.

I was in Valcenia several years ago for a day, more in the outskirts than in the centro. The people were very friendly.
