Awkward Family Moments

After having a couple meals with "extended" family, I am very glad that it is just me and my mama in the house. On Friday, I had lunch at my Grandmas house with my sister, brother and nephew. It is was the first time I met my grandma and brother. They are all very nice, but they were talking in Spanish too quickly for me to follow the conversation. So it was an awkward, sit-there-and-smile meal. My grandma is really cute, but not very talkative. She was at my house for lunch on Sunday. There were some times when my mom was in the kitchen and it was just the two of us in the room. Most awkward minutes so far! :) She wasn't initiating conversation and I was too nervous to form questions. My favorite thing about her is how she walks. Her shuffle puts all other old people to shame. But really, it is very cute. My other awkward family moment was on Saturday. My mama's boyfriend, Antonio, came over for lunch. He was trying to talk to me, but he wasn't slowing down a whole lot and I wasn't able to understand anything he said. He is a fireman, and my mama always refers to him as "the fireman," in English, to me. I think she thinks that I won't understand her if she doesn't clarify with the English word she knows. But the funny thing is that I never understand her when she says "fireman" in English because of her accent. So then she repeats the word in Spanish, and I understand her fine.
